After successfully leading two immersive photography workshops in Nagaland previously, I am excited to announce the third edition, a 9-night journey that blends the cultural vibrance of the Nagaland Hornbill Festival with the timeless charm of Kolkata’s street photography. This expedition is crafted for photographers who want more than just images; it is designed for those who wish to understand culture through their lens, refine their visual storytelling, and experience India in its most authentic, unfiltered form.
From tribal celebrations and mountain villages to bustling markets and historic neighbourhoods, every day of this workshop is built to push your creativity, strengthen your technique, and inspire a deeper connection with the subjects you photograph.
Only 3 spots left
Day 1 / 29th November: Arrival in Kolkata
Upon arrival at Kolkata International Airport, our team will welcome you and transfer you to your 4–5 star accommodation in central Kolkata. Guests arriving early may join a relaxed photowalk, a gentle introduction to the city’s colours, rhythm, and everyday life.
In the evening, we gather for a welcome dinner with Shivam, his assistant, and the team. It’s an opportunity to meet fellow participants, share expectations, and clarify any queries. Shivam will also give an overview of the photographic possibilities ahead and walk through the itinerary for the coming days.
Rest well, as the journey is just beginning.
Day 2 / 30th November: Kolkata to Kohima
After a comfortable breakfast, we head to the airport for our flight to Dimapur and continue onward to our homestay in Kohima. As the light softens, we photograph the surrounding landscapes from the homestay, a peaceful introduction to Nagaland’s highland scenery. Before dinner, we gather in the living room for an informal photo review, discussing images created so far and setting the tone for the days ahead.
Day 3 & 4 / 1st & 2nd December: Hornbill Festival
The next two days are dedicated to the vibrant energy of the Hornbill Festival. From traditional dances and ritual performances to tribal displays and daily activities, the festival offers an extraordinary range of visual stories.
We move through the festival grounds, observing and documenting the rhythm of Naga culture, while refining storytelling, composition, and cultural portraiture. These two days offer both creative challenges and deeply rewarding photographic moments.
Day 5 / 3rd December: Village Visits & Naga Tribal Life
Our journey continues into some of Nagaland’s most culturally rich villages, including Khonoma, Kigwema, Jakhama, and others along the route.
This day is devoted to close interactions with local communities, observing their lifestyle, exchanging conversations, and learning to photograph people respectfully within their environment. You’ll practice capturing portraits, environmental scenes, and everyday life with sensitivity and connection, deepening your documentary approach.
Day 6 / 4th December: Kohima to Kolkata
Depending on our flight schedule and group preference, the morning offers opportunities to revisit a few local locations around Kohima for additional photography.
We later fly back to Kolkata and settle into our hotel. Before dinner, Shivam conducts an editing and storytelling masterclass, helping you shape your narrative and refine your visual approach. The day concludes with a grand dinner together.
Day 7 / 5th December: Kolkata Street Photography
The day unfolds through a series of immersive street photography walks across Kolkata. Early hours present beautiful light and countless scenes of daily life emerging along the roadsides, ideal for honing observational skills and capturing subtle, fleeting moments.
We later head to Kumartuli, the famed potters’ district, where artisans create intricate clay idols. Wandering through the narrow lanes and surrounding neighbourhoods, you experience the textures, colours, and cultural richness that define the city.
Day 8 / 6th December: Flower Market & North Kolkata
Our morning begins at the iconic Flower Market on the banks of the Hooghly River, a lively, colourful environment that offers striking compositions and an excellent perspective of the Howrah Bridge.
From there, we explore the lanes and alleys of North Kolkata and the bustling Koley Vegetable Market, areas filled with heritage, hand-pulled rickshaws, old architecture, and vivid portrait opportunities that reflect the soul of the city.
Day 9 / 7th December: Traditional Wrestlers & Local Train Journey
The day starts with a powerful portrait session featuring traditional Kolkata wrestlers by the Hooghly River, ideal for working with expressions, body language, and strong compositional framing.
Later, we board a local Kolkata train and experience the movement, energy, and stories of everyday commuters, a fitting final chapter to our photographic journey.
In the evening, we gather for a heartfelt farewell dinner, celebrating the images created, the stories lived, and the friendships formed.
Day 10 / 8th December: Goodbye Kolkata, Until Next Time
Enjoy breakfast before you depart. Fly back home or continue your journey to other destinations across Incredible India, and we’ll be happy to help plan any extensions.
