Day-2 (2nd Aug.)

Arrival in Leh and Acclimatisation

We will take an early morning flight to Leh, and on our way to Leh, you will witness one of your best flight view experiences. The scenic beauty Himalayan range will inspire you to enjoy the journey ahead. On arrival, my local friend and our guide Gapto and his team will be ready to pick us up and transfer us to our hotel in Leh. Since there will be a drastic change in the attitude and oxygen availability, we will take this day very easily and keep it open for our body to acclimatise to the climate in the region. The leisure time will give our bodies ample time to acclimate to our upcoming adventures.

Introduction: Introductory Lecture for the expedition by Shivam will take place on this day.

Optional: Warm-up photography session in the evening, visiting Leh palace and Shanti stupa to acclimatise.

Note: This itinerary covers only moderate altitude regions, and we will always have the remedies with us for extreme health situations like oxygen cylinders and trained guides to give first aid.

Begin the day with the serene morning Puja at Thiksey Monastery, followed by interactive moments with the monks. You’ll also get an opportunity to step inside their homes within the monastery grounds and gain insights into their lifestyle. Afterwards, return to camp for lunch and some rest before embarking on a scenic drive to the enchanting Aryan Valley. In the late afternoon, enjoy a small photography session in and around Garkhon Village, and connect with the locals through interactive exchanges—capturing their traditions, culture, and way of life through your lens.

Day-4 (4th Aug.)

Dha & Hanu and visiting Alchi Monastry

Dha and Hanu, two culturally rich villages, offer immense photographic opportunities with their unique traditions and landscapes. On the return drive to Leh, visit the ancient Alchi Monastery, one of the oldest in the region, before stopping for lunch. Later in the day, join Shivam for an engaging photo review session, followed by dinner and an overnight stay in Leh.

Nestled in the heart of Ladakh, the villages of Dha and Hanu, along with the historic Alchi Monastery, offer a journey through time and culture. Dha and Hanu, home to the unique Aryan community, boast picturesque landscapes of terraced fields and ancient traditions. Photographers can capture vibrant portraits of locals adorned in traditional attire, while the serene Alchi Monastery, with its ancient murals and exquisite Buddhist art, provides an opportunity for stunning architectural photography. Together, these locations offer a rich tapestry of culture, spirituality, and natural beauty, ideal for those seeking authentic and timeless imagery.

Day-5 (5th Aug.)

Nubra Valley and Diskit Monastery

After breakfast, drive towards the stunning Nubra Valley, with a stop at the iconic Diskit Monastery for unique photographic opportunities along the way. Upon arrival, enjoy some leisure time followed by a photo review session, before ending the day with dinner and an overnight stay at our accommodation in Hunder.

Day-6 (6th Aug.)

Explore Nubra Valley and Hunder

We will dedicate this day to exploring various photographic opportunities in Nubra Valley and near Hunder. Tucked away in the stunning landscapes of Ladakh, Nubra Valley, and Hunder is a photographer’s paradise. The Nubra Valley, with its sweeping sand dunes, rugged mountains, and lush green oasis, offers a striking contrast of landscapes. In Hunder, the famous double-humped Bactrian camels roam the desert-like terrain, providing unique and captivating subjects for wildlife and landscape photography. The valley’s remote villages, ancient monasteries, and rivers cutting through the vast expanse create endless opportunities for documenting both the serene beauty of nature and the quiet rhythms of Ladakhi life.

Day-7 (7th Aug.)

Drive Back to Leh & Leisure Day

After spending the morning in the beautiful landscapes of Nubra Valley, we will begin our drive back towards Leh, passing through dramatic mountain roads and scenic high-altitude terrain along the way. This day is intentionally kept lighter to break down the longer drives ahead while allowing everyone time to rest, slow down, and absorb the experiences from the past few days.

The evening in Leh will be dedicated to photo reviews, file backups, editing sessions, and discussions on storytelling and image selection. It will also provide an opportunity to relax, enjoy the town at a slower pace, and prepare for the next phase of the expedition, deeper into Ladakh.

Day-8 (8th Aug.)

Visit Tso Moriri Lake & Korzok Villag

After breakfast, we will begin our journey towards the breathtaking Tso Moriri Lake, driving through dramatic valleys, remote mountain roads, and ever-changing high-altitude landscapes of Ladakh. Surrounded by vast barren mountains and deep blue waters, Tso Moriri is one of the most peaceful and visually striking regions in the Himalayas, offering incredible opportunities for landscape and documentary photography.

Upon reaching Korzok Village, located on the banks of the lake, we will spend time photographing the quiet rhythms of village life, local homes, monasteries, and the stunning natural environment surrounding the region. The changing light across the lake during the evening creates magical moments for photography and reflection. Dinner and overnight stay will be in Korzok Village.

Day-9 (9th Aug.)

Photographing a day in the life of the Changpa Tribe

This day will be dedicated to documenting the daily life of the Changpa tribe, the nomadic pastoral community of Ladakh known for their deep connection to the harsh Himalayan landscape and their centuries-old traditions. We will spend time exploring their settlements and observing everyday moments of work, family life, herding, and cultural practices, creating opportunities for intimate and meaningful storytelling through photography. We will return to Korzok Village for dinner and an overnight stay.

The remote environment, traditional lifestyle, and resilience of the Changpa people provide a rare and powerful experience for documentary photographers seeking authentic human stories in one of the most isolated regions of the Himalayas.

The Changpa tribe of Ladakh is a nomadic pastoralist community residing in the high-altitude Changthang region, known for herding Pashmina goats, whose wool is used to make prized cashmere. Living in traditional yak wool tents called rebos, the Changpa migrate with their herds across the harsh, cold plains, enduring extreme weather conditions. Their lifestyle is closely tied to Tibetan Buddhism, with deep-rooted spiritual and cultural practices that reflect its connection to the land. While modern influences have begun to reach them, the Changpa continue to preserve their traditional ways, embodying Ladakh’s resilient and unique cultural heritage.

Day-10 (10th Aug.)

Drive Back to Leh via Monasteries & Farewell Dinner

After breakfast, we will begin our journey back towards Leh, driving through some of Ladakh’s most dramatic mountain landscapes while stopping at monasteries and scenic locations along the way. Throughout the drive, we will pause for photography, conversations, and final reflections on the journey as we slowly make our way back to Leh. In the evening, we will gather for a farewell dinner to celebrate the experiences, friendships, and photographs created during the expedition. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day-11 (11th Aug.)

After breakfast, we will transfer to Leh Airport for our flight back to Delhi, marking the conclusion of the Ladakh Photography Expedition. “I went into the Ladakh workshop with clear ideas of the images I wanted to create, and Shivam helped make them happen. From choosing the right locations to guiding me with light and timing, his support turned my vision into photographs I’m proud of. The workshop was well-structured, but still flexible enough to adapt to what I wanted to achieve. It felt less like a tour and more like working alongside a mentor who genuinely wanted me to succeed.”
